Biography
Blacklight
was formed in the summer of 2000 by long time friends AJ &
Rob in Houston, Texas where they continue to play and record.
With Rob's deep musical background and AJ's talent for writing,
the two were an ideal match to form the roots of a band. Matched
up with AJ’s brother, Dave, on the skins, they began writing
songs and playing cover shows at local sports bars cutting their
teeth in the local scene.
In 2004
some lineup changes helped with the addition of yet another
long time friend, Heidi, on the bass. Heidi joined the band
in late 2004 and became the full time bass player just before
recording their album, "Under the Covers", a CD dedicated
to the artists that inspired the group’s formation. With
the new additions, Blacklight gained more freedom both instrumentally
and artistically, adding an extra dynamic to the band’s
sound and allowing front man, AJ, to focus primarily on vocals.
With the
completion of the “Covers” disc, live show schedules
began to pick up with shows around Houston and surrounding areas.
The band finished up some live shows in 2005 and began writing
its debut album “Under the Blacklight”. With the
writing task accomplished, the band set out to test some of
its material at local clubs and is now in the midst of recording
the tracks with an expected release date of Winter 2007.
To date
Blacklight is sounding its best ever. The band has A full-bodied
sound, which steeps from a heavy "DOORS" influence
along with liberal doses of the Cult, Metallica, Type O negative,
and various vintage hard rock influences. From the classics
to Modern Alt-Rock, the band’s music borders at times
on gothic, but is still well rooted in mainstream rock n roll
with mixtures of alternative and blues in between. The band’s
sound is a rich heavy beat that stirs the imagination, shakes
the ground, pulls at the soul, and awakens the senses.
